Show THE SAN JUAN RECORD Wednesday March 2, 1988 - Page 12 I marvel at the beauty of the sky each morning as the sun comes up the brilliant reds, yellows and oranges, then the blueness overhead. Soon the wild birds begin to chirp and let you know that another lovely day has begun. After an enjoyable, warm day with pure fresh air, the evening comes and the sun sets leaving behind its radiant colors till the sky becomes studded with stars. Then the birds stop their soft lullabys and the night begins with its peace and quiet. How lucky we are to live in San Juan. We were pleased when we recently received a note from Jim and Gertrude Shannon, former owners of the San Juan Record, who now live in Lexington, Missouri. They still remember fondly our lovely San Juan country and speak of it and the people. They are keeping busy and happy. Bonnie LouAnn Grover, Meyer and Marva Laws attended the girls basketball games in the northern part of the state. Also attending were the Barfusses and Singers and many others, Im sure. Its great that our girls get such good support. We are very proud of them. There is a lovely new at the Four Comers Center. It was presented to the Center by the family of the late Doyle Black in appreciation of the loving care he received there for the past few years. The scene is a replica of the great with pine and cedar trees, rocks, red soil, sage brush, wild life and a small camper. Doyle loved being outdoors and always longed for a camper so he could be right in the middle of nature. The scene portrays his great desire. Jimmy Swenson has received an LDS mission call to serve in the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania area. He will enter the training center in April. He is a son of Morris and Connie Swenson. It is nice to see Clyde and Pat Watkins, their daughter, Marie, and little grandson home from an extended trip to Austrailia and New Zealand. They went to visit Pats folks. The trailer home of the PhilbertTsos family was gutted by fire on Sunday and they lost everything. Luckily they were away at the time so no one was injured, but fires are sure hard on the emotions in addition to what is lost. Congratulations to the San Juan Record for the nine awards they received in the Better Newspaper Contest. Is that equivalent to a silver or gold at the Olympics? The Winter Extravaganza held at San Juan High last Monday was a lovely program and was suitable for the entire family. It was sponsored by the Close Up program and FBLA. The extravaganza was a fund raising effort to take Close Up and FBLA participants to Washington D.C. where they attend sessions of congress and the supreme court and see government at work. Dan Barfuss is the chairman of the Close Up program and Liz Sharp is chairman for FBLA. Its great to see young people involved in projects like this.
