Show THE SAN JUAN RECORD Wednesday June 4, 1986 - Page 8 say his spirit is still around. For the residents of all the towns on the tour, and for the road crew now back in modern studios, Celebrate Utah was a very special celebration. Mexican Hat celebrates Utah with KUTV by Doris Valle A helicopter, nine road vehicles, six big utility trucks (including a satellite truck) and a road crew descended on Mexican Hat for a day as part of a statewide Celebrate Utah tour by KUTV. The crew included Michael Youngren, Newswatch 2 director; Gordon 22-pers- Godfrey, coordinator; John Stehr, reporter; John Gaheen, Mike Rhinehart and Ken Fall, photographers; Denise Earle, in charge of advance arrangements; and, Robert Garcia who was responsible for staging areas. The trek through Utahs small towns was a complex and extremely costly project. Transportation, food and lodging at $1,000 per day was only the beginning. Broadcasts were live, going from the satellite truck to a satellite 22,000 miles away, bouncing back to the Salt Lake City receiver dish, then broadcast through KUTV studios. A million dollars is the price of the truck and its receiving equipment. The tremendous investment in man hours, cash, blood, sweat and tears produces some remarkable results. For thousands of Utahns, the staff at KUTV are no longer animated objects on a TV screen they are now real people who get swollen knots under the skin from insect bites and headaches and upset stomachs from stess. The increase represents a $16 million increase in oil production and a loss of $10 million in mining and utilities. County commissioners are pleased as they had been predicting a sizable reduction in county valuation this year. According to the State Tax Commission some oil companies and utilities have filed protests that may affect the final figure.
