Play today In Blanding slowpitch tourney Play began today in the season Blanding slowpitch soft-ba- ll tournament. The doubleelimination tournament involves both mens and womens teams, with two championship games for each division, if necessary, to determine the champion. There are eight mens teams with the last three spots being filled by the top three finishers in a qualification tourney held Wednesday. Hie first five places were filled by the top finishers from the regular season. Hie final league standings had not been determined at press Girls softball by Andrew Jensen Hie conclusion of the girls softball league in Monticello brought some satisfaction to Team number Two and Team number Four who both tied for first place in the league claiming eight wins each. Succeeding these two teams were Team number three with seven wins and Team number one holding one win. Team number two coach Kara Odette said she had a good group We had good players and a good time. The coaching was a lot of fun and I'm of girls, looking forward to next year. Commenting on the league she said, E was terrific to have the league where the girls could have fun like they should. Even though the league was plagued with misunderstandings about the rules, most players enjoyed participating. So did the coaches, who enjoyed the season as much as the players. The results will be known and printed in the San Juan Record next week. Peanut League MPD Monticello Police Department and Canyonlands Dairy are on their way to state baseball action this week. MPD with an 11- -4 season record, ended up as the number one team in the Monticello league. Tey went to state representing the first place team from Monticello. Canyonlands went to state action repDairy resenting the second place team. Canyonlands held a 7- record at -8 by Andrew Jensen It was Redds of Monticello that claimed first place in peanut league baseball action which came to a close last week. Redds enjoyed a 7 - 3 season record. Dove Creek claimed a 6 and 4 record for second place, and Abajo Petroleum and Youngs Machine tied for third place with a 5- -5 record. Rogers Foods brought up the rear to hold fourth place. Hie peanut league games were held every Tuesday and Thursday at 5 p.m. at the north end of the ball parks. Peanut league ball is a preleague to little league ball where older children participate. and Canyonlands compete in state Little League competition by Andrew Jensen f 1982 the end of the regular season. Hiere was a tie for third place between Monticello Mercantile and Dove Creek, with each team holding a 6- -9 record. Even though these two teams were unable to participate in state competition, outstanding players from those two teams were drafted by MPD and Canyonlands to both ensure a better chance at state and also allow more players to join in the fun of going to state baseball action; State baseball is held at Spanish Fork this year and teams throughout the state are invited to play in the championship tournament. Results will be printed next week in Hie San Juan Record. MPD is Everett Coaching Johnson, police chief, and Teddy Howe. Coaching Canyonlands is Paul Langston and Rhett Maughan. The teams left Sunday morning. Their first game was Monday afternoon. ; Ashley Forest offers lodgepole pine for harvest major Mountain Pine Beetle infestation in Northeastern Utah has prompted the Ashley National Forest to seek timber operators interested in harvesting damaged lodgepole pine. An estimated 50 million board feet of timber in the 6 to diameter range is being killed each year by the bark beetle. Present harvest activities are unable to: keep up with the timber volume being damaged. Forest Supervisor Ashley James N.
