Show I w FLORENCE tries are being taken Lloyd Redd of Fort Worth, Texas, was here last weekend visiting his mother, Mrs. Irene H. Redd. He is employed with a leather industry and had been in this territory tending to business matters. He and his family live in Fort Worth. Lloyd was born and raised here and attended our schools. Mr. Truman K. Rigby and son, Blake, left for Salt Lake Friday after school. They returned on Sunday. They attended to business matters while there. Mrs. Theressa Redd had as dinner guests on Sunday Mrs. Rowena Winters and Mrs. Ada Rigby and girls. Mrs. Redd also enjoyed a visit with her two daughters, who are attending school in Provo and Ogden. Cecelia attends BYU and Asenath attends Weber College. Florence Marold visited her mother, Mrs. Irene Marold over the Mothers Day weekend. She attends Weber Col- now for rodeo queen, also. Mrs. Ruby Bronson says this year promises to be the biggest and best celebration ever held here, which will be around July 4th. Extensive plans for the celebration are now well under way. It was good to meet Mrs. Nell Dalton last week when she came to Blanding in behalf of the benefit auction held in Monticello on Saturday evening. This was held in the San Juan County fair building - all sorts of household goods and food were gathered and auctioned off. A supper of home cooked food was sold to help out. It was quite exciting to learn that a sailplane had come to Monticello from far away Phoenix lastSunday, considering weather thermals are all the power they have. Bill Galbraith of Layton belongs to such a club and he writes that it is the nicest hobby that a person can have. We are pleased to hear that Mrs. Claude Lacy is feeling better after her recent surgery at San Juan Hospital. We wish for her a speedy recovery and hope she can return home soon. just learned that four of our Blanding young folks have been on the College honor roll for winter quarter at culture, Shauna Harvey in business, James Demar Redd in USU. Mrs. Letha Hoagland was made happy on Sunday, when her sister and her husband, the Ralph Eatingers of Phed-for- d, Nebraska, came to spend Mothers Day with her. They just stayed one day. Mr. and. Mrs. Robert Holt and two children of Sunset, Utah, spent a day or two here last week visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Phil Hurst. Last Monday Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Lyman and Mr. and Mrs. Phil Hurst flew to Tulsa, Oklahoma to get the new county ambulance and drive it back. They returned home on lege. Speakers in First Ward Sacrament meeting Sunday even- ing were Mr. Bruce Douglas, Mr. Sid Henderson and Mr. Leonard Hurst. The Ward read out the membership of 22 new members which brings the Ward up to 637 members. Jim Hacking and his wife came down from Provo for the weekend to visit his mother, Mrs. Gene Hacking, and to help her with her garden and to honor her on Mothers Day. It was so good to visit Sonia and Evan Kendall on Wednesday. They live in California. She is an Interior Decorator and is employed in several large stores there and he is training on the police force there. Sonia is the former Sonia Shumway and is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Shumway. Sonia was born and raised here and graduated from good old San Juan High in 1963. They left for their home on Thursday. Sylvia Jo Shumway, who is employed at the University of Utah, also came to visit her parents, theLelandShumways, and was here while her sister Sonia was here. A lovely Mothers Day program was given by the junior Sunday School children in opening exercises at First Ward on Sunday. The children sang songs and paid tribute to the mothers there. At the close of Sunday School, potted plants were passed out to each mother by the Sunday School superintendency. Mr. and Mrs. Max Black of Monticello and children came on Sunday to wish his mother, Mrs. Marion Black, a happy Le-la- Mothers nd Ford Team 1 i wagon sale! Hows that for price? Day. Mr. and Mrs. La Var Lyman took Mr. and Mrs. Wiley Redd for a ride on Sunday - they drove to Monticello and enjoyed Mothers Day dinner in a cafe there. Mr. Redd has been homebound for many years and he was happy to be out. The musical program given by the College Edition of BYU at Provo was enjoyed by a huge crowd here in the San Juna High auditorium on Saturday evening. It kicked off our Frontier Days celebration. Mrs. Dee Gibbons was in charge of arrangements. Her brother was one of the singers and has a beautiful voice, it was mostly modern style musical numbers and was a lively group. This group is soon to tour Europe. The deadline for entering Frontier Days gueen contest is Monday night. Several beauties have already entered.
