Show THE SALT HAKE TRIBUNE, SUNDAY MORNING, JUNE 10, 192&. 19 V HorsesBeginto Arrive for Lagoon Summer Meeting; More Than 0 Now Quartered More Coming SKortly; Work on Track Starts 100 New SulU Planned; Use of Starting Gate Feature of Program. j thsn ninety horses now ar quartered at the Lacoon race track awaiting the openLnt of the eurnmer race meeting June 20, while nearly twenty carloads are expected. within the next two weeks. Hort Madleon, representative of William P. Kyne, announced SatuWay. Monday win fifteen bring; another stable when horse belonging Jo Z- - E. .McGregor, who has been racing his stable at Tulsa, will arrive at Ogden for shipment to the Tarminrton track. Ten carloads, of horses will leave Omaha June 46 and six carloads will leave Kansas City June 24 or 25. A few are expected from Tijuana quarters, though the number is not yet positive. C. B. Irwin' stable, familiar to Utah race fans since the sport was revived, will also be present and will horses. The number some twenty-fiv- e date for the arrival of Irwin's string is not yet known. Track to Be In Shape Within Few Days. At present most work centering around the meet is being expended getting the track in shape for early workouts. A few of the horses have been out for dally gallops on the track, but as yet the turf Is not in shape for regular workouts. A crew of workers is engaged removing el! growth from the track and it will be ready for regular workouts by the middle of the week. Work will be started before Uie end of the week on 100 new stalls. Kyne 4iaa foreseen that at least 500 horses will be shipped to Lagoon for the meet and the new stalls will accommodate them all without making it necessary to quarter any at the fair grounds In Salt Lake. A new feature of the meet will be the use of a starting gate. W. R. Jarvts, whose own gate will be used, will act as stsrter and Is on his way to Lagoon. The gate is built in two sections, each section accommodating six horses. It is of aluminum construction and mounted on wire rubbeMor S, AI M it t vV that wheels r-tired make It pos- sible for. one man to haul the gate on and off the track, making it an easy before the matter to clear the tra-horses get around. Each stall of the on both sides gate Is heavily padded as a protection to horse and jockey. Practice of Posting Odds to Be Used. While Mr. Kyne la stin considering the idea of posting closing straight prices on all entries before the race starts. It Is likely that the system of posting odds will be used. There will be four postings under this plan, the first posting to be the odds figured the then three postright before the race, ings during the course of the betting while the odds shift, then a final posting after the mutuels close that will be on the boards before the race The ides of posting the Is over. straight prices proved to be a failure at the Arlington taaek recently, due to the heavy and betting. However, the wagering on Utah tracks is, much lighter, comparatively, and the chances of the system's success are more favoable. The posting of the odds, however, will vary but slightly with the price a dually to be paid. If the cloelng odds are three to one. It Is a certainthat the straight price will be ty IS or slightly above to holders of $2 tickets, giving a return of straight three to one plus the original investment returned. 1 4 last-mmu- r V v Weber County Farm Bureau League I "A" DmSIOK.
