The reason I came this time was because my mom promised to buy me the small toy of my choice. When I was that age, losing your mom in wasn't even worth a Ninja Turtle bus that shot pizrt zas! My mom and I entered the and I wanted to play in the "auto doors" ( like most kids my age), but my mom reminded me of my toy and I followed obediently into the labyrinth most people call She shopped, I followed, she rt shopped some more, and loaded enough drinks, nap- kins, and potato chips in our cart to feed, wipe the faces of, and quench the thirsts of a family reunion (or an army). I wanted my toy more and more as precious toy selecting time passed me by. I was a runt for my age (as now) and couldn't see oyer the items in the cart. We walked by the toys. Although I couldn't see that I was near the toys. I was pulled in by a Ninja Turtle green tractor "Trevor Joel" ( see there it is ) "you better get' by this cart or you aren't even going to get a toy." I shrugged that one off despise the "Joel" she threw in there. I stayed in the toy sec- tion quite intent on picking out a toy as soon as possible ( I was six, the suspense was killing me). Then the tractor beam lost all it s power over me. I realized I should have listened to the warning my mother had given me, because now I couldnt find her! I wandered for what seemed like days. Looking around each isle just knowing that my mother was around this one, then the next one, then the next. It was no use. I couldnt find my mom, and that was that. It was time for plan B. I had thought of plan B after an episode of G.I. Joe. It was the after-sho"tip", and w just happened to inform me on how to locate my mom in a large store like They showed a child approach G.I. Joe in a large store and asked him how he could find his mother. Joe directed him towards one of the checkout counters, and the child asked the polite woman to call his mother to that counter. Now I knew how to find my mom, and as Joe said himself, "Knowing is half the battle." I made my journey to checkout counter 8 and asked the woman to old, call my mom to that counter. "What's yer mom's name?" I didn't know. In the process of picking toys and losing my mother, I had forgotten her "real" name. I knew her name sort of schizo- phrenic. t told her the name I had scraped out of the empty, dark bucket I called a brain. She responded by picking up the phone and mumbling out, 'Natalie Blackwell, counter 8; Natalie Blackwell, counter 8." I looked around impatiently; it had been a whole 0 seconds and she wasn't there yet. What could be taking her so long? I stood there for about another minute with toy in hand, when I saw an overstuffed cart rolling toward counter 8. My mom was behind it! She rolled up and started setting items on the counter casually as if I hadn't been in a panic to find her.
