Emery, after winning the Region 11 title, finished in fifth place in the 3 A ranks. The Spartans finished with 106 points to edge out Wasatch for fifth place. The Wasps came in with 109 points. Emery was not far behind Cedar City, which finished in fourth with 99 points, and Pine View, which took third with 89 points. Uintah was second with 66 points. Lehi proved to be the best in 3A cross country with an impressive 33 points. Also finishing in the top 10 was Richfield of Region 1 1 with 214 points and seventh place. In one sense, it was tragic because highly touted senior runner Kristy Funk collapsed just short ofthe finish line and failed to finish the race among the top 50 runners after going through the regular season as one of the best in the state, including finishing as the No. 1 runner in Region 11. On the other hand, sophomore Ashlee Ward proved to be a pleasant surprise as she finished in fifth place and was the first Lady Spartan to cross the finish line. She was the only 19 runner to come in under minutes Spartan volleyball team takes fifth at tournament PRICE-Th- e Emery High volleyball team finished its season at the state 3A volleyball tournament this past week at CEU by taking the consolation championship, fifth place. Emery lost in the opening round to the eventual state champions from North Sanpete as the Hawks got their second title in as many years. In the first game Emery took an early lead before North Sanpete In came though to win 15-the second game, Emery came alive, fighting for every point. The score went back and forth with North Sanpete unable to pull away as it had done in the first game. 8. Others commented that Emery had been the hardest competition of the year for the repeating and undefeated state champions from North Sanpete.
