Davis Progress Editor Emery wrestlers reboard EMERY COUNTY MENS BASKETBALL LEAGUE faced foe last week when they hosted Moab in region action. The Spartans were looking for their first dual meet win of the season, but Moab wasnt about to be the victim as the visitors left with a 0 win. Emery will not be in action until Jan. 5 when it hosts San Juan. The match began on a positive note for the Spartans when Boyd decision over Pugmire got a Ken Bisser of Moab. Pugmire at the end of the fell behind first period but got a point for an escape and stalling to come within one at going into the round. last Beginning in the up the Emery wrestler position, took the lead when he was awarded three points for a near pin. In the 119 class, Moabs Jay Olearang pinned Hans Hansen in the third round while Jim Young defeated in Emerys Shawn McCourt the 126 class. Emerys LaVon Eskeets was pinned by Moabs Randy Mello in the second period of the 138 division match while Jack Funk was pinned by Moabs Paul Halstead in the first period of the 145 match. In the 167 division, Moabs Donny Wells decisioned Wade Peacock while Dennis Wells of Moab pinned Cory Mortensen of Emery in the first round. Following the dual match with San Juan, Emery will host the Emery Tournament on Friday, Jan. 7, with teams from Delta, Lehi, Manti, Millard, Morgan, Richfield, and Wasatch competing. 11-- 6 Sandra Anderson is the GAA Player of the Week as selected by Coach Nancy Reed. The choice came followng the teams 2 overtime loss in Springville Monday. In that game, Sandra finished with 14 points and made two critical free throws to put the game into overtime. Coach Reed said she played outstanding defense as well. Davis Progress Editor In one of their best performances of the preseason, the Emery Spartans took a 2 win from the Carbon Dinos at ECHS on Dec. 18 to put the teams preseason record at 5 going into Wednesdays road game against Juab. The win over the county neighbor helped ease the loss earlier in the week to Wasatch. Following a traveling call, Carbon got the ball back, and Brent Behunin popped from 18 feet to put the score at Behunin then stole the ball and scored on a layup to bring Carbon within five at the 4:40 mark. (Continued on Page 3) 36-2- 9. Chad Mead, a senior guard, has been chosen Player of the Week by the coaching staff at Emery High for his performance last week. Chad scored 10 points in a reserve role against Carbon last week, helping his team to a 2 win. Coach James Nelson praised his high shooting percentage and low number of turnovers as well as his consistency of play over the last three weeks. Jordan was able to pin his opponent in the 155 pound division. Jordan did an excellent job in his match, explained Coach Reed Fehlberg. Jordan is the son of Ira and Elaine Hatch.
