Show O'" 10A Wednesday, November Emery County Progress 4, 1981 ay niWNyia Emery teachers salaries listed Salary schedules for teachers bachelors degree in the Emery School District were raised by an average of $2,068 or 12.3 percent this year. In addition, most teachers not at the top of the salary scale also received an annual experience increment averaging another $665. Thus, the total increase for a teacher who had not reached the top step in the salary schedule averaged $2,733, or 16.3 2 school percent during the year. These were some of the facts reported by Utah Foundation, the private research organization, in their regular annual study of teacher salaries in Utah. Although the teacher salary raise for 1981-8- is somewhat below the record increase provided last year, it generally is in line with the increases made during the previous three years. According to the Foundation study, the value of the basic weighted pupil unit was raised 6 percent by the 1981 Utah Legislature. While this legislative appropriation for schools is a major factor in the total funds available for teacher salaries, the actual salary levels are determined by negotiations held between teacher representatives and local school boards. In addition, teachers not at the top of the salary scale also received an experience increment of 4.2 percent, for a total increase averaging 11.5 percent. Among the forty school districts, total salary increases ranged from 7.4 percent in the South Sanpete School District to 16.7 percent in the Rich County School District. The starting salary for a teacher with a bachelors degree in the Emery School District this year is $15,360. The salary schedules include regular increases for experience and added academic training. Thus, experienced teachers with a masters degree receive up to $24,740 in the Emery School District. All of the above salary amounts 5 are for approximately teaching days or about nine months of actual service. Teachers with special duties and those who teach summer clases receive added compensation for such service. Foundation analysts point out that a teacher who began teaching in the Emery School District school year during the 1976-7- 7 received a starting salary of $8,820. Today, that same teacher with five years of experience would receive $18,450.
