Greg Cook Coach gave up Griz to return to grid trapper, blazing trails, skirmishing with the Indians, living off the land by shooting the buffalo and deer, plying the streams for fish, tangling with grizzlies, and in general exulting in an unfettered existence of plenty of physical activity in the great out doors. pulled on a helmet and, minus pads, blocks and tackles for the sheer joy of the sport. Every year he joins an alumni team for a fierce battle and only complains slightly of the punishment to his tough physique. Now that the football season is over Greg will be assisting with the wrestling program and later with the baseball team. He played a year as a semi - professional baseball player and will prove an asset to the team. Denied such outlet, he finds his kicks in bull riding, football, hunting and fishing, and more football. I was being interviewed at College of Eastern Utah for the defensive coordinator job, and I was also interviewed by Frank Hall who invited me to come and look at Emery High facilities. I was offered more pay than the college and that is how I was assigned as defensive coordinator for the Spartans. Greg wanted to go into a winning program where the team goes out on the field convinced they are the best and unbeatable. He had such faith in the Spartans he prophesied a victory over Grantsville. He expressed his positive feeling to the homecoming assembly. When the team lost, although they were a better team, Greg observed why. Our kids are super athletes, but weak in fundamentals. They cant block and they cant kick, but they are learning and showing much promise. I see a bright future for Emery next year. People do not realize it, but it takes a different breed of kid who wants to play football and is willing to dedicate himself.
