It has been a great experience and an honor to do Kle Bailey Mayoral Candidate City Council Incumbent Continued from Page A4 Continued from Page A4 seven-plu- s vision of the responsibilities of Mayor is as follows: The Mayor has an obligation to be an advocate for you, the citizens to represent and to present your concerns, issues and opinions to the governing body. I promise to be accessible and open to all citizens as year needs arise. The Mayor has a responsibility to maintain and to build on the relationships we have upstate with the Legislature and our elected officials and to foster cooperation and keep open communication with the county and other local, regional and state entities. I believe these cooperative relationships are the best they have been for many years, and would like an opportunity to build on that. The Mayor has the responsibility for monitoring agenda items, facilitating meetings, and keeping the council and city manager on track as far as goals are concerned. In the near future, the city will be making some vital decisions, which will affect all of the citizens. I believe that my long history in as vice chair In these positions I have run meetings, represented the county on issues such as wilderness, roads. Atlas tailings, and many others. I have traveled to Salt Lake City, Washington, D C. and a number of places m between to make sure that we in Grand My make sure that the citizens of Moab have their voice heard on state and federal issues that con-ctm our community. 1 have worked hard to build relationships with other government entities on state and federal levels. And I have been successful in doing so. These relationships would follow me to the mayors office and will benefit Moab City as a result. As mayor I will serve with an open mind. I will be informed on the issues that are facing the city council. I have the ability to communicate my views on issues to help influence the outcome in a positive manner. I will work for and support issues that will benefit Moab such as continued support for tourism, the hospital, economic development, and as I always have, I will support filming in our great area. Contrary to some rumors that seem to get started, I will not dismiss any appointed official as soon as I get elected. I believe the people who work for Moab are very competent and are all working for the same thing a better Moab with a great future. I think it is important for all elected officials, county and city to have good working relationships I have this with the county council and will be able to bring the friendships I have developed with me to improve communications between the city and county. I think this is important for our city and would benefit all, not just the city but the county as well. While serving as a county councilman, I have always been accessible for people who want to communicate their views on issues. The type of business I am in allows me the flexibility to always stop and listen at any time. As mayor, I will continue being accessible, available, and approachable. I am grateful for the trust that the people have put in me to be their county councilman. I take it very serious and always try to do what is right. I will continue this as mayor and will be grateful for your support and vote on Nov. 6. sues. The Mayor has the responsibility for making statutory appointments, as well as appointments to the Planning Commission, Board of Adjustment and other boards. As vacancies on these boards occur, I plan to maintain a diversity of opinion with the new appointments. The greatest asset or resource a community has is its citizens. Moab is especially blessed in this regard. I plan to take advantage of that resource. In a community as diverse as Moab, it is only natural for each of us to have differing views about Moab's future. It will be my responsibility as Mayor to make sure that all Moab citizens have the opportunity to be involved in the process that determines our future, and ensure that everyones voice will be heard. I care about this community and the direction it is going to take. I know city government and how it works and, more importantly, how it doesnt work. I have the skills, the background and the desire to serve. I would sincerely appreciate your vote in the Nov. 6 election. JointK Economic Growth. Over the past 15 years the City of Miiab has experienced tremendous growth. In 1984 the community lost 25 percent of ts popiJution, and property! alucs plummeted. Oui recovery has been extrarchnary, mostly because of tourism, but also because of the return of a population base. In addition to continuing our support of the tounst industry, we can improve our economy by expanding our higher education campus and health care services in the community.
