Show Page C6 THE DAILY HERALD, Provo, llah, Wednesday. July 7, IW) Half means different things to people Dear Readers: Several of you have asked about the amount of powdered sugar used in the frosting for the red velvet cake recipe we printed recently. The recipe calls for 12 box plus 2 tablespoons of powdered sugar. The confusion seems to be that times change and many of us don't buy powdered sugar in boxes any longer. So how much sugar are we talking about? A box of powdered sugar contains 3 34 cups of sugar. One-haof that amount would be 1 78 cups, and when you add 2 tablespoons to that amount, you end up with about 2 cups of powdered sugar! Who would have guessed that the answer could be so simple? So whether you buy boxes or bags of powdered sugar, 2 cups will do well for the icing. Don't you feel like a piece of cake and a cup of coffee or tea right about now? I have two new pamphlets. One has some of my favorite cake recipes, like Red Velvet Cake and pie-cru- st It's fast and easy to clean Fatti Rist, Winter up. Haven, Fla. ti Dear Heloise: Reading about the man who used canned biscuit mix to make sopiapillas reminded me of a trick I learned from my mother: Use canned biscuit mix to make sugar doughnuts. My mom would use the lid from the bottle of vegetable oil to make the holes in the biscuits. She would fry them in a frying pan in the oil and then cover them with sugar. I remember as a child rolling the doughnuts and holes on a plate. What a treat! The r. Chocolate Sauerkraut Cake, while the other pamphlet has yummy flavored coffee and tea mixtures.
