Due to a legislative amendment, Jordan District has had to increase its mill levy from 33 to 35.1 mill. The auperintendent pointed out hi district must pay $132,458 more into the state uniform school fund annually than in previous years. The law stipulates that everything every-thing over $775 per distribution unit raised through the state supplemental sup-plemental program must be paid back into the fund. This requires an increase of the new mills to raise the funds. An additional increase also was necessitated in capital outlay levies of I.I mills. The budget is based on a total assessed valuation of $134 million. - I he present year total budget was $5,872,990 while a comparison of the maintenance and operation segment of the budget shows the 1961-62 amount at $4,546,001 and the corresponding 1960-61 figure $4,280,152. A breakdown of expenditures indicates in-dicates the following: general con. trol, $77,900; instruction, $3,261,-275; $3,261,-275; coordinate activities, $75,000; transportation, $162,000; operation in maintenance of plant, $512,200; fixed charges. $265,900; capital outlay, $148,029; debt service, $7,500, and the South Park Academy Acad-emy (Utah Prison School) $16,200. To fill contractual agreements in the capital outlay portion of the budget, $1,591,520 has been set aside to build the Copperview Elementary Ele-mentary School, Hillcrest High School and an addition at Midvalley Elementary School. Mill levies for capital outlay will remain at 12 mills, the same as the current year. |
