The Salt Lake Children's Choir, Ralph Woodward, Jr. director, will present its traditional Christmas concert Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 at 8 p.m. in the Cathedral of the Madeleine, 331 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City. The choirs' two ensembles (totalling 110 selected young singers) will be heard in music of Bach and Handel as well as familiar and Nothing subtle here. In addition to its new hands-o- n holiday toy exhibit, Hansen Planetarium will also offer a new holiday show this 25th anniversary year. Titled "Christmas Magic," the new multimedia, Digistar production, will feature beautiful and nostalgic holiday visuals set to heartwarming music by The Mormon Tabernacle Choir, the Carpenters, and others. The new "Christmas Magic" production will be the newest of three holiday shows presented daily during the planetarium's 25th anniversary season. The perennially popular, "Star of Bethleham" show, which was the first production shown when Hansen Planaterium opened 25 years ago Nov. 26 will present a fascinating, updated account of the possible scientific explanation for the Bethleham Star phenomenon, as well as the historical reasons we now celebrate the birth of Jesus at the wrong time of year. In addition, the highly entertaining "Laser Christmas" show will once again amuse audiences with its colorful, animated laser images set to a medley of Christmas songs by performers that include Bing Crosby, Elvis, Bruce Springsteen, Willie Nelson, and many others. Beginning Friday the public will be able to enjoy the "Santa's Toy Laboratory" demos, as well as the "Christmas Magic," "Star of Beth Over local children dancers with the Utah Ballet Company, in this fun and entertaining ballet for the whole family.
