Norma Giles Thomas, Provo, a member of the legislative committee of the American Association of Retired Persons, is the other panelist. Mrs. Thomas will also discuss ways of approaching the Legislature, with emphasis on getting larger appropriations for services to the elderly. Homer C. Chandler, executive director of the Mountainland Association of Governments (MAG), will moderate the panel. The symposium is jointly sponsored by MAG and the City of Orem Senior Citizens Friendship Center. It will be held at that facility located at 400 E. 100 N. Funding for the training is provided under contract with the Utah Department of Social Services, the aging and adult services division. Staff and volunteers from various social service and nutrition agencies are expected to attend from Summit, Utah and Wasatch Counties. While the symposium is intended for professional staff, the public is welcome, according to Ted Livingston, director of the MAG department of aging and adult services. Livingston concluded that the session would be a good opportunity for elderly residents to meet Senator McAllister, and tell them of their needs and concerns. There is no charge for attending the symposium. ky r Clayton-Clarkesvill- different 62 and Over 'jlVlilJMl n said. "A lady came into the Visitors Center. She was from New York City. Gran Quivira, part of Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument, holds a spiritual treasure for them. The pueblo originally called Cueloze was given its present name in 1780 a century after it was abandoned after Indians near El Paso, Texas, told a Spanish chronicler it was Coronado's lost city of gold. Archaeologists believe up to 10,-0people lived in the area. Scholars aren't sure why they left but National Park Service pamphlets suggest drought, starvation, Spanish cruelty, disease and Apache raids all played a role.
