Utah Christensen, a County native, would like to put his educational background and public Sunday, September 13, 1987 the quality of life in Orem can continue only if the citizens, the community leaders, and the professional city staff continue to look ahead, to anticipate rather than to react to changing conditions, to coordinate efforts rather than to compete for community resources, and to make decisions that are based on shared community objectives and values. If elected, Christensen will work to be certain that council decisions and policies are carefully weighed and analyzed in the context of both the immediate and the long-terbenefit of the community as a whole. Christensen is quick to point-ou- t that economic conditions and a widening range of competing interests makes city policy decisionmaking increasingly complex. The ability to understand these complexities and both appreciate and demand excellence from professional administrative staff is an important qualification Christensen feels he can bring to the city council. Christensen states that he has dedicated his career to providing efficient and effective public service and would like the opportunity to dedicate additional time and energy to the community of Orem. if In x 'administration experience into service for the benefit of Orem. In 1982, he received a bachelor's degree in city planning from BYU and in 1984 graduated with a master's degree in Public Administration. He served as a community development intern for Provo City in 1981, developed the master plan for Spanish Fork City in 1982, and served as an administrative intern for Riverton City in 1983. Following graduation in 1984, he served as assistant to the City Administrator for Nephi City before accepting a position as an analyst for the state legislature in e August of 1985. He is a active member of his church and is married to the former Darlene Jensen of Goshen. ' .Christensen believes Orem is and can continue to be, one of the best pities in the country in which to live. He emphasizes however, that life-tim- I .3. m Johnson describes himself as a positive personality committed to serve the community and to face problems with a common sense, rather than emotional approach. "I am not running to back a particular issue or a special interest. My concern is that every issue be considered on its merit." Johnson is a lifelong resident of Provo and has paid close attention to the business and growth cycles the city has experienced over the years. "There seems to be a growing sense of confidence that a direction has been estblished to and . workout the City's problems that it is the right direction." I, the Grandview-NorthweThe current council member, Merrill Martin, has decided that he will not seek Johnson, 42, has spent several years involved in the community programs and was most recently appointed to serve as a member of the City Planning Commission. "I feel strongly about making time to be involved in the community," Johnson notes.
