Show Thursday, June THE HERALD, Provo, Utah, 20. 1985 - Page IS Trades, Tall T ribesman Make Bullets Better Team' By WILL DUNHAM UPI Sports Writer LANDOYER, Md. (UPI) The Washington Bullets have faith that somehow a team will emerge out of the dizzying swirl of maneuvers, trades and chance taking that filled their busy day at the NBA draft. In the effort department they were winners. How they scored in the results department remains to be seen. The Bullets shipped out two veterans, brought in another, made a choice, then surprise first-rounchose a Sudanese tribesman in the second round. Asked by a scout about Bol's toughness, his agent, Frank Cata-pansaid: "Look the kid killed a lion with a spear. Who else on your team did that?" Washington coach Gene Shue is impressed by Bol's height. "He's (Bol's) probably the talland est person you'll ever see maybe the skinniest," Shue said. "His legs aren't any bigger than and I'm not exactly my arms Steve Reeves or Lou Ferrigno," Bullets General Manager Bob Ferry said. Bol, is now the starting center for Rhode Island Gulls of the new United States Basketball yS League. "He is just absolutely unique and can do incred;ble things. He catches the ball off the nm and dunks it flatfooted and he does it with grace," Ferry said. He said there is a chance Bol with a wingspan approaching 100 inches could develop into "the best who ever lived." With Bol towering as a long-terproject, the Bullets also made moves to satisfy immediate needs a lack of scoring from the bench and versatility at the power forward position. "I don't think you can just stand still because teams will go right by you," said Shue as the dust was shot-block- settling at the Capital Centre. "This is a much, much better team." times late In a less shocking selection, the choice of Wake Forest's Kenny Green did raise a few eyebrows, d particularly because Karl Malone of Lousiana Tech was bypassed. do highly-regarde- But Shue said Green, who skipped his senior year in college to enter the draft, is exactly what the Bullets have been lacking for an explosive many seasons one-on-o- scorer. "He has a very quick release, he gets the ball and shoots it. In that sense, he's sort of like a Bernard King or Mark Aguirre," said Shue. "We have guys who need plays to get their shots off Rut some Shue said while the team compromised some muscle in dealing away Mahorn, they picked up "versatility" in Roundfield, a power forward, one of the top defensive players at his position and a solid rebounder. 4 Corev I'avin ' Boise Cascade makes protects easier with Quality Products, Low Prices and Expert Advice.
