LOCAL BOY PLAYS FOR WINNING BASKETBALL TEAM IN FT. LEWIS TOURNEY Mrs. Irene Rekoutis of Copper-ton Copper-ton recently received the following article from her son, George, who has finished basic training at Ft. Ord, Calif., and is now stationed nt Ft. Lewis, Wash., about his participation partici-pation in a basketball tournament there which was won by his company: com-pany: The hard hitting hoopsters from Bravo Company have added another an-other plaque to the 1st Battle Grp., Eighth Infantry's trophy room, as they topped all competition in the Fort Lewis Company Level basketball basket-ball tournament. ' In the 36-team round robin tourney, tour-ney, the team from Bravo Company met tough opposition from their competitors, but by eliminating two of the top contenders were able to secure a berth in the semi-finals. Facing the 8th in the all important import-ant semi-finals was the basketball five from Hqs. Battery, 32nd Div. Arty. Although the men from the battle group played exceedingly well in front of a crowd composed mainly of 32nd Div. rooters, half time found them behind by an 8-point 8-point spread. During the second half however, tha Eighth Inf. hoopsters bounded back with superb b;ll handling and fine teamwork to take the game by a 76 to 69 score. The bulk of the 8th's scoring went to PFC George Rekoutis who accounted for 25 points. He was ably assisted by PFC Brooks and Pvt. Larry Edwards, each of whom scored 1 5 points. High scorers for the 32nd Div. Arty, team were PFC Art Suze with 31 points and PFC Boyd Dollar, a Green Bay Packer now on active duty with the' 32nd Division who tallied 1 7 points. The following night, Jensen's Gym, once again was the scene of fine basketball activity as the team from Bravo Company met another 4th Division team composed of men from Hqtrs. Company 22nd Inf. for the final game of the tournament. tourna-ment. The "Bullets" were fired up for this championship game and took an early lead over their opponents.
