May Obituaries, More on John Paul Olssn MAPLETON, UTAH: John Paul Olsen, 67, passed from this life on May 14, 2002 with complications of diabetes at the home of his A daughter in He Mapleton. was born July 6, 1934 to Lloyd and Alyce Dunn Olsen in Paradise, Utah. He married Susanne Murray, his high school sweetheart, on September 18, 1953 in the Logan LDS Temple. John attended elementary school in Paradise and graduated from South Cache High School and Seminary and from Utah State University. He was active in band and orchestra and was a student leader and scholar athlete. He spent 8 years as an active reservist for the U.S. Army, retiring as a Master Sergeant. He spent two and a half years teaching in the Logan City School District. He began a 40 year career in the hospitality industry in 1960 by i franchising drive-i- restaurants in the mid west for Dog 'N Suds, Inc., in Champaign, Illinois and East Lansing, Michigan. Moving later to hotel development, he worked for several hotel groups and retired after spending 15 years with Radisson Hotels of Minneapolis as senior vice president, international division. He was credited, among other things, with placing the first American hotels in Russia and organizing the group of 30 hotels in Scandinavia and Northern Europe known as SAS n Radisson. John served many years on the Alumni Advisory Boards at Utah State University and received the Professional Achievement Award in 1992. He was a high priest in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved his par- ents and their pioneer heritage his family and returned-witfrom wherever they lived in the United States to spend time in his hometown of Paradise. A life time dream was fulfilled when he and Susanne restored the historic Bishop John P. James home there and moved back after retirement. He was a prolific and talented writer and speaker who loved to travel and pursue his interest in history and current events. It was his passion to collect and restore antique farm tractors and farm equipment which he purchased while working and traveling around the country. John was devoted to his large network of family and friends, and he went to great lengths to keep in touch with them. He will be remembered by his grandchildren for his genuine interest and concern, his great sense of humor and his unconditional love and acceptance of them as individuals. His love for animals added additional happiness to his life. He is survived by his wife, Susanne, of 48 years and three children: Ronda (Kim) Ferguson, Provo; Alyce Anne (Roger) Brinkerhoff, Mapleton; and John Jr. (Jessica), Springville. He has nine grandchildren: Lindsay (Matt) Smith, Cory, Jared (LDS Arkansas-Littl- e mission Rock) and Amanda Ferguson; and Dustin, Tyson (LDS mission Halifax, Nova Scotia), Collin, Megan and Chelsea Brinkerhoff. Also surviving are his two sisters: Dixie (Line) Clifford, Orem; and Rosemary (Bill) Mathews of Lindon. He was preceded in death by his parents. Family and friends may call at Walker-Sanderso- Funeral n Home, 646 E. 800 North, Orem, Utah Sunday evening, May 19 from 7 p.m. Funeral services will be Monday, May 20, 2002 at 1 p.m. at the Paradise LDS Chapel, 9060 S. 200 West, Paradise, Utah. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the church preceding the service. Memorial contributions may be made in the memory of John P. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict He worked as a miner during most of his life. There couldn't be a better brother than Dennis. Survivors include: a brother and two sisters, Gary (Diana Kae) Hickman, Payson; Mickie (James) Kroph, Enoch; and Marva Huntington, of Castledale.
