(UPI) - in Phoenix The seven took control of the Navajo Tribal Council offices in Window Rock about 7:30 a.m. Monday They demanded an apology from the two candidates for Tribal Chairman, incumbent Peter MacDonald and former Chairman Raymond Nakai, for the manner in which they had conducted their campaigns. They also demanded the disbanding of the tribe's Supreme Judicial Council, which had blocked Donald Benally of Shiprock from becoming a candidate for tribal council. About four hours after they had entered the building, the seven men surrendered peacefully when Navajo tribal police surrounded the building and ordered them to come out. At the initial presentment, Magistrate Ronald Grenko originally set bond at $10,000 for one of the men. However, after a discussion with attorney George Harrison, he rescinded the bond and agreed to allow the men to be released to the custody of Ms. Wauneka, of Klategoh, Ariz. She will be responsible for their apperance before the U.S. magistrate in Phoenix. In tribal elections Tuesday, a group of Navajos protested a decision by the Supreme Judicial Council to reopen polls at Shiprock. A Shiprock tribal district judge had closed the polls earlier in response to widespread voter disapproval over the exclusion of Benally as a candidate for tribal council. Benally claims he is 30, but the Judicial Council ruled he was 28, based on census records. The minimum age for tribal council is 30. arraignment Utah Governor Declines To Sign Consent Decree Western Airlines Sole Occupant Of New Terminal - committee.
