Up to 500 head are expected (UPI Telephoto) to be handled here during the next few days. Some of the cattle to be buried have traces of PBB and some have traced of PCP. Some 30,000 cattle have been buried at thfs site in the past. CADILLAC, Mich. (UPI) -- first PBB trial abruptly recessed for the weekend today when defense attorneys objected to the scheduled appearance of Dutch biochemist called to discuss the effects of the toxic substance on humans. Wexford County Circuit Court Judge William Peterson canceled any further courtroom activity for the day and told attorneys to take a written statement from Dr. Anjo Strik. Michigan Chemical, a codefendant in Falmouth dairy farmer Roy Tacoma's $1 million PBB damage suit, is accused of selling salts and other feed products tainted with the fire retardant PBB yen before the chemical was mixed with livestock feed at a Farm Bureau Services plant in 1973. Services also is a j ."Farm Bureau defendant in Tacoma's suit. Thousands of farm animals that ate feed died or were destroyed. Peterson said Strik would eventually testify, probably next month, after defense attorneys review his state- ment. The Dutch scientists has conducted one of the few known studies on the ts of PBB (polybrominated biphenyl) on humans and animals. Thursday, a Michigan Chemical Co. pollution control director said PBB traces showed up in and around the company's St. Louis plant this year, even though production of the fire retardent was halted at the facility three years ago. Patrick A. Lincoln said PBB residue has turned up periodically in dust an waste water from the plant and in soil and a nearby river bed. "It leaks out very slowly.
