The storms dumped up to 4 inches of rain in one hour in the Quad Cities on the border, flooding some streets. A rash of funnel clouds was sighted in northwest Illinois and southeast Iowa Wednesday night. More storms blasted Texas, where up to 5 inches of rain triggered flooding in Rains County, about 50 miles northeast of Dallas. Burlington authorities said the town suffered more than a million dollars damage when a tornado smashed into the Fairway Shopping Center and chewed its way down U.S. 61. Police said a dozen businesses and 16 houses were damaged, and one bouse was destroyed. Shattering glass injured several people at the shopping center. Ed Fakezas, manager of The Warehouse Market, said his store was filled with customers when the twister hit. "Some of them screamed and hollered and others wouldn't move," he said. "There was no warning. The roof just started coming down. My head's still ringing." Officials said 24 people required treatment at Burlington Medical center. None of the injuries was described as serious.
