Show P.S.C. DECIDES RATE CASE LAST THURSDAY The Utah Public Service Commission Com-mission held, two to one Thursday that ammonium nitrate wot not, by itself, an explosive; the dissent held that it was an explosive. A definition of the compound was a vital factor in an application by Ashworth Transfer, Inc., to increase in-crease its rates for hauling ammonium ammon-ium nitrate from Geneva to Bingham Bing-ham Canyon. In the report and order signed by PSC Chairman Mai S. Bennett and Commissioner Jeise R. S. Budge, these statements were made: 1. Ashworth has authority to haul explosives but not to haul chemical compounds. 2. Ammonium nitrate, unless mixed with oils, is not an explosive. 3. Therefore, Ashworth has no authority to haul the material at either the present or proposed rates and must cease the operation. |
