Heston stars in the Walter Seltzer Production with Yvette Mimieux, James Brolin, Jeanne Crain, Roosevelt "Rosey" Grier, Walter Pidgeon and Leslie Uggams. Filmed in Panavision, this first screen hijack story is directed by John Guillermin as adapted by Stanley R. Green-ber- g from David Harper's Bantam Book novel, 'Hijacked.' "Many people refer to 'Skyjacked' as controversial," says Heston. "I cannot conceive of it being controversial for anybody but hijackers who surely remain a distinct minority in our society. However, had we approached the film carelessly, I can well see the possibility of a controversy arising. "When a film examines some public event or reoccurring situation such as air pirating Wjacking, or our word for it, 'skyjacking' which seems the most appropriate the makers of that film undertake, inevitably, a social responsibility that say the painter, or the novelist or the poet doesn't quite have. They cannot either abdicate or forget that responsibility," the actor declares. Film makers can comment on almost anything irorn their varying points of view, Heston explains, but there is an obligation to the public safety. "There are some public controversies in which, though you and I might disagree with the film maker's point of view, we can concede at least the logic of why he holds it. But nobody is going to responsibly argue that hijacking is a good thing, or deserving, or that a hijacker deserves any sympathy. And it's from that point of view, of course, that 'Skyjacked' is made. Our hijacker comes to a richly deserved abrupt, unsympathetic end. All through our film, it's apparent that he's not a fine fellow not even a particularly interesting one. Sesame Street 5- communications media has a responsibility which on at least one recent occasion has been avoided. The media coverage of the hijacking on Thanksgiving Day with the parachuter presented him as a somewhat glamorous figure. As a result, there were three more hijackings almost immediately and two people were killed. I cant speak for media responsibility, but I can for this film. It will rot encourage anyone to ever hijack a plane."
