You'd there are never known By CASEY BOWN UhZf v All-St- ar Lee Brower asks the question, "What is an attended fishing pole?" He said a friend of his had been arrested for leaving his bait in the water while he was some thirty yards away eating his lunch by the car. The fishing regulations say that "attended" shall mean the angler shall be within ten (10) feet of equipment being used at all times. Let-wasurprised to learn that this regulation had been in effect for fifteen years oi more, and that prior to that time attended had meant that the pole be held in the hand or hands at all times when angling. His next was a logical question, "Why ten feet? " Well, why not 10,000 or no law at all. We suppose that, theoretically at least, we all go fishing to enjoy the sport of fishing. If the angler simply sets his line and goes away to other activities he is not attending his line or fishing either one. Set line fishing is allowed on a few Utah waters but even here in the regulations the angler must be on the surface or shore of the water being fished. These few waters where set line fishing is permissable are the Lower Bear River and Four teams the Boston Bruins, New York Rangers, Montreal Canadieiis and Chicaall 12 go Black Hawks-fil- led berths on the 1971-7- 2 first and second teams announced Thurs- . . i tka nnsnmn n,o rolohrnlinn Pearson's newest Tire Center In Murray Ej i U I S The first team consisted of Boston's Bobby Orr and Phil Esposito, Chicago's Bobby Hull and Tony Esposito and New i- GT 2 - - v -- RETREADS 4, BELTED RADIALS OP CONSHOHOCKEN FR7814 or 40,000 MILE 30.34 15 is $32.29 $34.42 JR78or IR15 35.23 39.77 GR78-14.H- 5 Treadwear GUAR. They were the only two players to repeat on the first team while Stapleton and Cournoyer repeated on the second team. Orr was selected for the fifth straight year while Hull made it for the 10th time in his Casey , PrilMl1 7 ' bers. Yours for fun, i U VJ a The teams were chosen from a season-en- d poll by members of the Professional Hockey Writers Association in all 14 cities. Boston, New York and each placed two Chicago members on the first team and the Rangers and Hawks had two members on the second team. The Canadiens had the other two second team mem- Cutler Reservoir, Little Bear River proper and the Malad River, Green River below the Colorado State line, the Colorado and San Juan rivers above the water line of Lake Powell, and Utah Lake. If one should decide to set line fish on these waters it is advisable to read all the rules governing this activity. In the meantime, the rule is ten feet and if one is sleepy best take the nap near the pole. If we wish to set line fish then the waters listed above are the places to go. To prevent spills of liquids like lantern fuel and the like staple elastic along the inside of cabinets. Cans and bottles can be slipped in and . out easily but the elastic will hold them in place while traveling. Utah is noted for some of the finest waterfowl hunting anywhere, we were the first state to develop a public waterfowl marsh, and our hunters can still be accommodated on our many public marshes without serious crowding. If you question the latter statement about elbow room to hunt ducks, then pity, the Californian who shared his sport last year with 188,861 other gunners according to the federal duck stamp sales last year. The sale of these stamps in Utah last year totalled 35,946 and we have more developed public hunting areas than our sister state on the west coast. A recent flight over the high Uintas showed ice covered lakes at and above 9,000 feet and a still wintry looking landscape. Upon cur return the mail bag that day contained a pamphlet from the National Safety Council. Major point of the pamphlet was always to let people know where you are going, especially if the trip is to the outdoors. Your scribbler fully agrees and would add it is always wise to have a companion along and this is proportionately more important the further one gets into the byways and back country. Here are a few other does and don'ts as we head for the hills fishing two weeks hence. Do not plan a trip into the high country before June 15, and do check mountain road conditions for the byways leading off the oil. For instance, the Manti Skyline road will be muddy and in several places blocked by snowdrifts. 25 iy' THIS..
