Postoffices at Boise, Idaho, Pocatel-l- o and Salt Lake have been equipped with dies so that the cancellation machines in the offices stamp letters with a forest fire warning. Word from the forest headquarters indicates, that no less than 3 500 fires have occurred in the fourth forest service district within the last ten years. Half a million dollars was expended in .actual suppression, not the heavy expense necessary counting to patrol, and supervise the area, nor the loss of the wood and timber consumed in the flames. . RESULT FROM CARELESSNESS. cent of the fires in J.thisSixty-fo-district per have been found to be the fruits of carelessness on the part of campers and other users of the forests. The other 36 per cent of the fires were due to lightning, but in practically every case of a fire which was uncontrollable, the source has been traced to a neglected camp fire. The growing' use of the forests as recreational fields for tourists, has caused the forest service! to start their campaign to educate the public as to proper procedure in the; forest. Five , motion picture films showing fires in the intermountain country, eight lec- sets, together with other material, tue will be circulated during the week to show the danger of fire.; In 1919 there were 130,00 tourists visited forests of this district. In 1920, no less than 200,000 visited the forests.and indications for 1921 are i FLOUR I PATRIARCH: LEVI JAMES TAYLOR Patriarch Levi James Taylor wa honored at his home in Harrlsvllle Friday by a gathering of friends and relatives to do him honor on his seventieth birthday. The vein matter consists of an average of 50 per cent pure crystalline ammonia alum, easily recovered by simple processes, they declare. Six tunnels into the vein matter have been drilled to date.
