South Jordan Mayor Theron disagrees with the logic of Utah Highway 111 as a boundary. As proposed, the annexation would make the western city limits of South and West Jordan equal, he said. "Utah Highway 111 is a road that curves and meanders," said "We thought we would off the two cities bounsquare Hut-chin- Hut-ching- s. daries." Concerning the charge that South Jordan didn't notify Kennecott, Hut-chin- said the city followed all legalalities regarding annexation, which means the proposal was filed with the county and published in newspapers. "We didn't write a letter to Kennecott because it was not required," he said. Hutchings said the county's protest that the annexation would "divide Kennecott property" is not correct. "It wouldn't divide their property," he continued. "Kennecott has several hundreds of acres of land in South Jordan. We didn't see any problem in trying to give them an additional share in the city." Salt Lake County's protest will be filed with the county's boundary commission. "We have some concerns about the annexation creating islands of unincorporated area between South Jordan and West Jordan," Lewis said. "We are against any annexation that creates these islands." l6 BARBARA PAULSEN PIANO LESSONS BEGINNERS ADVANCED SANDY AREA 572-198- 9 South. Lack of notification and illogical boundaries have led Kennecott and Salt Lake County to protest South Jordan's proposed annexation of property west of 4800 West from 8000 to 11800 South. "We didn't know anything about this annexation until the day of the public hearing (which was Oct. 20)," said Frank Fisher, Kennecott's director of external affairs. "We would have been much more pleased if the city had indicated what they were thinking about doing. We probably would have been more receptive to it." Kennecott is only protesting the annexation of property west of Utah Highway 111, although the firm also owns land east of the main road which under consideration by South comJordan.
