Show of young ball players. A few like George Kell and Bob Neiman that are real pros. But if Andre Aodgers plays like he is doing this spring he will be the most exciting player to come into the majors since Mays and Robinson. The Giants and Cleveland will be in Salt Lake on April 3rd 'and the fans will see all of their stars in action. John and Rollie Maple were down in Phoenix and we didn't miss a game. Also saw young Zora iFoley fight. He is now ranked rank-ed sixth in the heavyweights. All of our old time baseball fans in Bingham will remember John and Rollie. Both were in pro ball, Rollie in the majors with the St. Louis Browns. We all liked this boy, Score. See where they offered of-fered a million for him and he is worth it. Both John and Rollie wanted to be remembered to their friends i nBingham. Just wanted to tell the fans in Bingham that there are some bleacher tickets for the Giants-Ir.dians Giants-Ir.dians game left but they are going fast. These seats will be as good as any in the park. Al Sports Here and There by Al Ablett Just back from Arizona, watching watch-ing the four big league teams that are training there and getting get-ting some of that real sunshine. Only one thing wrong with that, was that it was too short. The teams have had fine weather wea-ther and all four of them will reach the barrier in fine shape. The Giants, of course, I watched the closest, and they have some problems to iron out. But they do have a fine crop of rookies and they may find the answers in some of them. At present the most talked about boy in the four camps is Andre Rodgers, a shortstop that came to the Giants from the Bahama Islands. He is a shortstop and has only played ball for three years. Before that was a cricket and Softball star at his home. Came to the Giants' camp at his own expense but was signed in a hurry, lie is a colored color-ed boy, talks with a British accent. ac-cent. Big lad at 6' 3" and about 200 pounds, but very fast and has as great a pair of hands as one would care to see. Right now there is no question about his fielding $nd - so far this spring has been hitting both often and with great power. Another fine young man is Harris at first base. This is Gale's third try and I think it will be the charm. Has as much power as anyone and a great glove man. A couple of good looking pitchers. If they find the two they are looking for to back Willie Mays in the hit department they could be real tough. Cleveland of course has that great pitching and a young man by the name of Maries up from Indianapolis that looks like a great young ball player. The Cubs are in the 'building stage. But they have two young pitchers that are about as good as they come, in Moe Drabowsky and Don Kaiser. Of course there is Banks and Baker around second sec-ond but Banks has a bad arm. Nothing serious they say. The Orioles of Baltimore have some good pitching and a flock |
