Show SUGGESTION PLAN ANNOUNCED BY KENNECOTT L. F. Pett, general manager of the Utah Copper Division of Kennecott Ken-necott Copper Corporation announced an-nounced today that the company will inaugurate on April 3, a suggestion system and patent plan for its employees. Under the plan, cash awards will be paid to employees for suggestions and patentable ideas which result in reduced costs or improved working conditions. Awards will amount to 25 per cent of the estimated first years net savings, with maximums of $25,000 for adopted suggestions and $50,000 for patented ideas. Charles R. Cox, Kennecott president, in a letter to all employees, em-ployees, said in part: "American industry has advanced to the place it holds in our economy through the adoption of ideas. "Our company constantly is searching for better methods to maintain and improve its competitive com-petitive position. The company is anxious to assist in developing develop-ing employee's ideas for improved improv-ed techniques and equipment to share with employees the benefits bene-fits resulting from their adoption". adop-tion". The plan is designed to encourage en-courage active interest and participation par-ticipation of employees in the development and submission of ideas which lead to improved practices, Mr. Pett said. In addition, addi-tion, employees whose suggestions sugges-tions demonstrate unusual creative crea-tive ability and interest in company com-pany activities will receive further fur-ther recognition in salary and promotion consideration. The program will be adminis-j tered by a suggestion system administrator, ad-ministrator, plant coordinators and plant committees. Suggestions eligible for awards would include those which improve im-prove existing methods, improve piuve caisuuk iiicuiuus, mi(iuvc quality of product, provide operating op-erating savings, improve working work-ing conditions, promote good housekeeping, promote health and safety, improve employee and public relations, or substitute substi-tute a new method of procedure. Suggestions not eligible for awards, include those which would correct an obvious error, extend existing practices or equipment to other divisions, request re-quest suppiies or service, pertain to wages and salaries, matters which have been under consideration consider-ation and action on them is pending, pend-ing, or propose routine maintenance mainten-ance and repairs. The patent plan also provides awards for employees on patentable patent-able suggestions which the company com-pany undertakes to patent. Awards will be granted on an individual basis or, where group participation is involved, on a group basis. Employees directly engaged in research and development develop-ment activities will be eligible for research group awards. The patent aspect of the program will be administered by Division patent pat-ent officer and a Western Mining Divisions patent committee. Mr. Pett said the company has sent a booklet explaining the plans to each employee and that proper forms for submitting ideas are available in numerous racks located at the mine, mills and refinery. |
