Show 10 Hilltop Times COMMENTS Sept. 27. 199) O sail yiDUs, stfkknes yse y streamline the desktop administrative tasks in the office. Pretty heady stuff. It cuts down on time, dissolves communication barriers and maintains databases. It can send and receive your notes and will remind you of meetings and appointments. It even will track your expenses, if you happen to be one of those people who really wants to keep track of them. It sounds like an office worker's dream by SMSgt. Charlie Bowden Air Force News Service memory is a Df talent, does God-give- n record-keepin- g mean forget fulness comes wearing black hat? I hope not, because remembering is not something for which I will be long remembered. The famous string tied round the finger routine does me no good because I forget why I tied it there in the first place. The only thing close to a solution comes in the form of notes. They're everywhere. Plastered across the surface of the refrigerator door amid cartoons, drawings and postcards is a note about trash day, or perhaps a shopping list or some other little reminder to remember not to forget. And hardly a day passes that I don't carry a small, wadded note in my right pants pocket, its face covered with quickly scratched reminders to do this, buy that or call some person or office first thing. Of course, that's usually from the home front. At work, it's a different story. Memory block is no problem because neatly embedded in the troll that dominates my desk is an memory manager. It's called Higgins, but could be one of any number of similar computer software products on the market, and is billed as a group productivity program designed to blue-eye- 13-inc- d, machine. Maybe. But when I cruise the cubes that permeate this particular office building, I notice what may put this concept of an electronic memory manager into the category of an oxymoron. Why? Because in most instances, on the sides, top, bottom aivi occasionally even on the screen, is plastered any number of those familiar yellow stickies with an assortment of notes, messages and reminders. Of course, I really don't mind. Years ago I conceded to my apparent shortage of storage space up top and now I leave myself notes all over the place. In the old days I used tape to put up notes in prominent places that would greet me each morning and get me on my way to another eventful day. Then came those little yellow stickies, the bane of the forgetful because they come in so many sizes and shapes, and wind up stuck on just about h all-arou- mm Lee's Mongolian do some- take out the trash.
