The event raised funds for five Utah County charitable organizations. ooo Micron golf benefit nets literacy funds Several people got teed off for a good cause in the recent Micron Benefit Golf Tournament at Thanksgiving Point. Under the direction of Stan Lockhart, government affairs coordinator for Micron, and Kris Milchick, community relations, Micron was able to provide funding for five charitable organizations, which included the Lehi Community Charity Foundation, Lehi Literacy Volunteers, Center for Woman and Children, Boys and Girls Club of Utah County, and the Alpine Foundation. "We spent four months planning the event with the goal of helping the community at large," said Lockhart, "not only Lehi, but Utah County." Two dozen sponsors, most of them Micron vendors, paid $5,000 each for the opportunity to play in one of 36 foursomes at Johnny Miller's signature golf course at Thanksgiving Point. In addition to the vendors, Micron officials, as well as area celebri When an officer noticed a car speeding across the parking lot of a local convenience store, he wondered if the occupants could have been involved in a robbery. After stopping the car, he asked the driver, a Provo man, what was happening. Incredulously, the man said that he was attempting to pull off a gas skip. The astonished officer asked for verification of the driver's plans, and the man said he really was trying to skip out, but would return to the store to pay for the theft. Just at that time, the clerk came running out of the store to tell the officer about the gas skip, which he had obviously already heard about. While the man made arrangements to pay for the fuel, the officer wrote out a citation for theft of fuel, as well as failure to stop prior to the sidewalk. Several Salt Lake County people were booked into the Utah County Jail on charges stemming from a suspicious check incident at a local convenience store. The clerk reported that two different people presented checks on the same account to two different clerks. A check of the licence plate led officers to a Lehi home, where the investigation continued. A male and a female gave false information to the officers out of fear of being arrested for their known outstanding warrants; the woman had three warrants for forgery and one for possession of a controlled substance. The other female did not try to hide her outstanding warrant, but dispatch informed the officer that the vehicle in her possession was stolen; she claimed that she knew nothing of the drugs or the stolen checks. The key man in the incident admitted to having a blank check from the account involving the forgery. He was also found to have two outstanding warrants. A search of the vehicle yielded items consistent with a clandestine meth lab. ! hi, r;,v Jessie, age 7 'v A , , . i . . - L- " " - j u t'jrrr .v ."l " 'it Always wear proper Business Continued from front page in the Devil's Slide area in Morgan County, said they hope to relocate their transfer facility from Salt Lake City to Lehi. Bill Peperoneof Engineering pointed out that the future improvements to 700 South would make the property Hubble in question "virtually unusable for any other commercial use." One of the issues in question was the height requirements set forth by the current zoning. The 0 safety equipment company was requesting a conditional use permit to allow them to build a structure higher than the current limitations. Peperone added that the development would allow both Holnam trucks and Peck Trucking vehicles to access the west American Fork Main Street freeway interchange. Engineer Blaine Comer, however, felt that the future construction of 700 South would not provide enough space for the new business. "You really don't have the Avoid power room to build this thing," he said. "Sincerely, I don't think they can build the building the way they've represented."
