As a stepmother, I question the universal acceptance of her proposal to drop the "ugliest word" in our four-lett- Landers Creators Syndicate, Inc. language. I love my stepchildren and we have a wonderful relationship. It gets better as the years go by, but they are not my children. If the word "step" were dropped, can you imagine a child saying, in front of company, "I'm NOT your daughter," or "You're NOT my mother?" How embarrassing and hurtful that would be. He marched back into the cabin, slamming the door firmly behind him. "Yes, sir," Lee laughed, as he and the rest ofthe men began herding the strays west towards the Jordan River. Later that afternoon Brigham Young rode to the stray herd, sheepishly removing his hat and admitting a big mistake had been m ade. He said he h ad been answering questions all day such as, "How can we feed our children and calves " without our milk cow?" "How can we get the materials to finish our cabin without a team to pull the wagon?" Young said he was even accused of using the stray roundup as a means to underhandedly increase the size of his own personal herd. "If you don't want us rounding up strays," Lee said, then I suppose we are released from the committee." To be continued LOJd )DQD(o?D Mary T. Holm Marie B.
