Page Local news Mini-musica- Lehi youth provide great entertainment ls There was something for everyone the other wards' productions. last week when Lehi Stake's Glenda Kirkham, a director, filled were held and awards in for her the next night at the stake for the top performances presented center. The Lehi Ninth Ward's version of Both cast and crew discovered "Oklahoma" featured the smooth that real Troopers aren't limited to voice of Brad Allred and vivacious the bright lights of Broadway; They of Michelle Holbrook, not to acting be found right here in Lehi too. can mention a great acting job by Rose The audience was wafted right to Hinton as Aunt Eller. . ls ; ' The music, scenery, costumes, and cast added up to a full measure of entertainment for the audiences that crowded both ward houses and the stake center. The production was directed by Lora Johnson. "South Pacific" directed by Glenda Kirkham and Ned Wilson, t was accompanied by Eva Carson. Elyse Bangert as Mary was outstanding, the scenery added to the overall success of the production, and the familiar "I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Out of my Hair" and "Bali Hai" brought many memories of the original screen production. The old maxim, "the show must go on" proved true for the First Ward's cast and crew. Carolyn Player, who played Nellie Forbush, learned that her father had passed away just hours before the opening curtain. Like the trooper she is, Carolyn played the role the first evening so the play could be judged along with Main Street, in River City, U.S.A., as the Sixth Ward cavorted through n a of "Music Man." The show was complete from the railroad car with its hammy occupants; to the quartets who sang "Pick a Little, Talk a Little," and "Lida Rose." Richard Todd as Harold Hill was great and Marian the Librarian was properly proper as portrayed by Julianne Goss. The large cast, from children in the band to the townspeople, lent a hilarious yet disciplined flavor to the overall show which was ably directed by Connie Nielsen. "The King and I" was delightful, not only because of the beautifully costumed Siamese children, but because Janet Wilson portrayed "Anna" beautifully. The King of Siam, Dana Remhild, dramatized his role to the hilt, and the narrator, Arnold Pope, held the audience spellbound with his authoritative Siamese accent. The magician, Merlin, played by Drew Downs, and Old Arthur, acted mini-versio- by Dale Ekins, set the stage for a "Camelot" that brought back all the romance and fairy-tal- e qualities of the original Broadway show. A brand-neaccompaniment provided by Scott Dorton and his synthesizer, added a delightful zest to the beautiful music of "Camelot". and Don Clark, Lancelot, Guenevere, Mary Brown, provided the love interest as sang their way through the show. "Cinderella, complete with a stately fairy godmother and a pair of zany stepsisters, helped make the Lehi 13th Ward's production slightly sensational. Aura Lee McClure's singing as she warbled her way through the role of "Cinderella" was : outstanding. The handsome prince, George Jacklin, and cruel stepmother, Erica Dastrup brought believability to the play, but the antics of the stepsisters, Annette McClure and Rita Felt, were hilarious as they romped their way to the ball and determinedly tried to make the glass slipper fit their ungainly feet. perThursday's Following formances at the stake center, stake activities specialists, John and Cheryl Haws, with President Alvin Schow, presented the following awards: First Place Sixth Ward's "Music Man"; Second Place - Mini w .
