Show Lehi Free Press J Attendance Policy Outlined After much thought and careful evaluation by parents, PTA officers and council, students, teachers, school ad ministrators and district administrates a district-widwas attendance policy recommended to the Board of Education e for adoption. This policy was adopted by the board on Aug. 19, 1980. A memorandum has been given to all parents and students explaining the new policy. Parents have been asked to sign a paper stating they have read the "Alpine School District Attendance Policy for The policy wi!! be Schools." Secondary reviewed and necessary changes will be made following the 1980-8school year. Frequent absences of students from the classroom experiences disrupt the instructional and learning processes. The benefits of instruction, once lost, are often difficult to regain. The entire process of education requires a continuity of instruction, class participation, learning experiences, and study. Therefore, each local secondary school will make every effort within the following guidelines to encourage regular attendance of all students and to assist parents in their responsibility to have their children attend y school regularly. GUIDELINES 1. Students are expected to be in attendance every possible day of the school year in order to receive maximum benefit from their educational opportunities. Due to the fact that some absences may be unavoidable, students may receive credit in their classes if they are in attendance at least 40 days in a 45 day term or at least 80 days in a 90 day semester. If the number of days in the term or semester differs from 45 or 90 days, the required days of attendance will be adjusted according to that difference. If a student's total term or semester attendance appointments, educational travel, or other justifiable causes, the student or parent is to make advance arrangements with the local school administration. 2. In all cases of absence students will be required to make up classwork as inassigned by the teacher. This would clude but not be limited to tests, quizzes, papers and daily assignments. 3. Teachers will be required to give students who are absent an opportunity to make up classwork missed, except in the case of truancy. Schools will set a time deadline for makeup work to be completed. 4. Students missing a class to participate in any school sponsored activity will not be considered absent from the class provided they have followed proper excusing procedures. To earn full grade or credit, work missed must be made up unless the teacher indicates otherwise. 5. Makeup work is encouraged for truant absences to minimize the educational loss the student completed may makeup have suffered. work will not The be counted toward a student's grade. I. addition, as the number of truancies for a student increases, the school will proceed from parent notification to a parent conference, to suspension and finally to an informal hearing to explore other possible alternatives for the student 6. The teacher will be responsible to notify the parents as soon as the student reaches the allowed limit of absences in each of the student's classes. 7. Three tardies will be treated as one absence under this policy. When students are tardy for class, it is their responsibility to contact the teacher before the end of the class period so the absences will not be assessed. The teacher may excuse and not assess any tardiness of a legitimate nature which is beyond the control of the student. 8. Each local school will provide a for students to supervised program voluntarily make up excessive absences in order to qualify for credit The make up is to be hour for hour and outside of the regular school time. 9. In cases where extenuating circumstances exist, the principal may, upon written request of the student and his or her parents, waive all or part of the required make up time. E Thursday. John and his wife Jane, the former Jane Evans, used their savings to buy one truckload of irrigation equipment. They sold that equipment, bought more, sold it again, and gradually added to the inventory until now about $150,000 worth of plastic pipe, aluminum pipe and fittings, pumps and accessories are kept in stock. Originally, Hadfield Irrigation set up business in a small cinder block building located at 1350 East Main Street in Lehi. Business was good and more room was needed. Fortunately, John had purchased more property than was first needed. Last fall, it was time to grow again and so, during the slower season, a large yellow steel building was erected just behind the original building at the same address. The primary thrust of Hadfield Irrigation is sales, service, and installation of agricultural irrigation systems covering all aspects of sprinkler irrigation. Also involved is drip irrigation, and sophisticated furrow irrigation equipment with gated pipe. John has the personal experience and expertise to offer a turn key job, with knowledge and background in design and system layout, through trending and installation of the main pipeline, to the final "flip of the switch" for the project to function. The product line features the giant circle pivots capable of irrigating rolls with a 160 acre tracts; capacity of 40 acres; hand lines and solid sets used not only on alfalfa and grains,' but on many turf farms as well.
