Show 8 - CRISPY TIMES . JANUARY1994 Letters to the Times Dear Neighbors, I have been intending to bring our children to a Town Council meeting so they could witness democracy in action. After the last meeting, I no longer think it is such a good idea. Respect and courtesy should be an integral part of public meetings. ——lil Kulander Dear CVT/POA Board, Several years ago I purchased land in Castle Valley primarily because of its scenic beauty and peaceful setting. I am building my home in stages, and every visit brings me closer to feeling more a part of the community. Like many other property owners who are not yet full time residents, my source of information on valley events is the CV Times. Upon reading some of the issues though, it appears that much of the peacefulness is superficial. I believe it is the duty of the POA Board to represent our views. This is especially important since many property owners cannot participate in monthly meetings. During the Fall ’93 elections, 3 clear message was sent out by the majority of property owners. That message was the direction they wanted the valley to go. They did that by voting for POA board candidates who had similar values, concerns, and ideas. especially in light of the fact that Mr. Riggs has a much different political philosophy. It only seems right to replace Janie Tuft with a person who represents the same view as she. I have always believed that the voting process is the foundation of democracy, its purpose to determine the wants of the majority. The large voter turnout, coupled with the final results, should be an obvious statement of what the majority wants. For the board to overrule this is unacceptable. The future of this valley is determined largely by the actions we are taking now. Much more can be accomplished through community co— operation and understanding than by litigation and pettiness. Sincerely, Erich Alexander An Apology I was not able to attend the Town Meeting, but it has been duly reported to me that Joan suggested thatl should make an apology for insinuating Jack was trying to regulate color of houses. If this was what my letter in Another View implied, I do apologize. I only intended to answer Jack’s question on “liberty, freedom, and the pursuit of happiness” in the April 1993 Valley Times. I wonder if Jack misunderstood They won by a large margin. me, as Joan evidently did, as although I After the results, which gave Janie Tuft a seat on the board, she was forced am not as good with words as Jack is, whenever I have talked with Jack I have felt that we communicated without any problem even though we didn’t always agree on the issue. So I do publicly and openly state that as far as I remember I have not discussed with Jack nor heard him to resign from her elected position. She was then replaced by Bill Riggs, who received considerably less votes. To automatically give those 136 votes to Mr. Riggs quite simply misrepresents the people who voted for Ms. Tuft, Your letters to the Times are welcome and may be addressed to Cris Cofiey, CVSR 2607, Moab UT 84532. Deadline is the 10th of the month. We ask that you keep letters reasonably short—300 words or less—and we reserve the right to condense them as space demands. Thanks for your views on public issues. discuss guinea hens, grasshoppers, donkeys, nor house colors, or gardens—yes. If anyone made a statement about colors it was probably me, as I have often remarked that we have some outstanding colors on homes in our valley. Surely no one can deny that. Let me also take this opportunity to compliment loan on her new home (regardless of the color she chooses). I am glad it is large enough to accommodate her mother should the need ever arise to care for her. I wish more of us had been able to plan and prepare for the future. As I personally feel it is ungrateful and unfeeling for children to put parents in a rest home unless the necessary medical care cannot be given at home. I would also like to state that I think Jack has worked extra long and hard for this community following the views he feels are right. He has and is doing not double but triple duty. It is my understanding that this has been necessary as there were not enough interested people who could fill these positions. However, with the growth we have had and are still having, and the new interest shown in community affairs it should no longer be necessary for him to be overburdened with civic duties. It seems wrong that he should have to decide the issues and then be Castle Valley 14W} Inn "'-.'ol. __.\'- the one to police and carry them out. Surely this is no longer necessary. Others should help. Jack undoubtedly has other interests too. It is not my intention to be “catty” nor do I want to ruffle more feathers. I am sincere in these statements of my For the best rest out west. A Bed and Breakfast 801-259-6012 Eric Thomson & Lynn Forbes Thomson CVSR 2602, Moab, Utah 84532 feelings. I also feel that the chip piles on so many people’s shoulders do not do credit to our community. We only hurt ourselves when we become so divided. —Gwen Martineau |
