Another night at the mall with the girls leaves you cold, and the poker game with the all-nig- ht guys sounds like no big thrill. So what is Movie marathons! Set up the VCR, dim the lights, put a fire in the fireplace and assemble the greatest, collection of munchies known to man. Zeta Tau Alpha sorority hopes. to colonize at By Margaret Wimborne Chronicle staff writer National representatives from Zeta Tau Alpha sorority will be on campus this week to colonize a chapter at the University of Utah, This is the final stage of a process that has taken more than a year. About 18 months ago, Elaine Obergfell, a U. student who heard about Zeta Tau Alpha from a friend, contacted the national sorority headquarters about starting a chapter at the U. Obergfell then contacted the U.'s Greek Council which voted to invite Zeta Tau Alpha to colonize. Zeta Tau Alpha officials responded to the offer and sent representatives to investigate campus conditions. Zeta Tau Alpha was founded in 1898 in Farmville, Va. at Longwood College. Its membership has grown from nine to more than 100,000. The sorority has more than 150 chapters throughout North America. Once the colony is established, it must meet certain requirements within five years in order to receive a charter. It must have an advisory board, officers, a pledge program, a firm financial base and maintain a certain membership level. Cherry Ridges, coordinator of the student involvement center, said the Greek system is "excited about the new addi U. this week tion." Ridges said in the last year there have been three new fraternities on campus but Zeta Tau Alpha is the only new sorority. She hopes the new colony will stimulate interest from other fraternal organizations to start chapters at the U.
