The purpose of the leaflet is to explain the needed 20 percent desired increase in rates. I would like to propose what happens to all competitive businesses when a competitive business has so much business they have to expand and even build new and improved buildings - hire additional help, buy additional inventory - all at great cost. But what happens, does this mean that this newly enlarged and expanded business can demand higher prices because of their added cost? No,- this means that even lower prices can be the result of more and more business. Even though additional employees and inventory and buildings are involved. I wish my business was such that I needed to expand and build bigger and better stores. If this was the case I'm sure that higher prices would not be the result, but lower, more competitive prices would have to be made. Of course, I do realize you have no competition, so therefore you are in a completely different ball game, but I feel that we as customers are being taken for a ride down the inflation road because you want money before the new facilities are built. We have to, in competitive business, build, make loans, lower prices, and give better service to stay in business. The enclosed leaflet may make sense to a old, but to a businessman, there are many loopholes you are filling with our money. The trap loss at this point amounts to over $100, without including the price of the lost skins. Sometimes melting ice and flood water will cause a trap to dislodge and move downstream. But ice flow doesn t leave human footprints. Investigation shows that staples and wires used to attach the traps to boards, were pulled loose; there was even evidence that some of them had held animals which were skinned on the spot. It appears from signs left around the area that these traps were taken by young people. The traps that are missing had been painted red, and may be faded or chipped to some extent. Each was stamped with the initials "D.B.", and also contained a small aluminum tag with my name, address and phone number. Of course the tags may have been pryed off, but the "D.B." would be difficult to remove. , The income I see from trapping helps my family to make ends meet, and helps our boy on his Mission. Losing the skins hurts, but losing the equipment is worse! If your son or his friends seem to have increased their trapping activity lately, please be kind enough to check out their equipment. Temptations are hard for young people to resist, and one thing leads to another. A young man who finds he can increase his income by building a supply of stolen traps will be tempted to find more. He's likely to meet up with a one with a trap owner who is not so understanding-may- be shotgun in his hands. But the household water conservation measure may be more myth than truth, according to the men who America's plumbers. should know LYNN EWER, a Tremonton plumber, passed along an article to us from "Contractor" magazine which flushes the whole idea of a brick in every toilet tank down the drain, so to speak. Fred E. Schmuck, of Fluidmaster, Inc., and the magazine noted that "the brick in the tank plan is a poorly citizens oversimpconceived notion, with and passing the time a their lifying problem, wasting useless concept on to others. THEORETICALLY the brick in the tank displaces an equal volume of water. But, the magazine noted that "when the toilet is flushed, the tank ball or stopper resets and stops the flushing action with two or three inches of water remaining. This water will keep a horizontally placed brick continuously submerged, and will cover over 30 percent of a vertically oriented brick. IN ORDER to displace water which actually flushes, any object placed in the tank must be above the minimum drainage level. Thus, the horizontal brick will do no good at all and savings from the vertical brick are greatly reduced." THE MAGAZINE suggests that a tall weighted plastic bottle left standing in the tank will conserve far more water. Better still, is the simple process of lowering the upper water an inch or two by bending the float ball downward." Lowering the water two inches doesn't hurt the flushing action and results in over five times the water savings than that of a vertically oriented brick or over 20 gallons per day for the average family. USE OF SOME other method than the brick in the lank also alleviates the possibility of the brick disintegrating and eventually clogging the toilet. It also alleviates the possibility of cracking the tank when the brk k is placed in the tank a little too hastily. A CHICKEN in every pot didn't work, and neither, it seems, does a brick in evcrv tank. 700 Watt By Loccl Businessman i Or Fief ion fartt y Garfield's Visit BriCK m rJ JJ r BOX ELDER COUNTY commissioners are currently involved in a land use hassle which serves to point up some of the claims land use proponents have made, namely, that no one wants land use planning until it's their land which is being infringed upon. are at the present time THE COMMISSIONERS of a decision district judge in a suit by the awaiting the county to obtain a restraining order against a Willard area mobile home park developer. The county went to court when the developer chose to go ahead with his development after the county had denied him a building permit. When the question was brought to court, the judge informed the developer he could continue development at his own risk. THERE WERE several reasons the county could not issue a permit to the developer when he applied. One was the threat of pollution from septic tanks to wells on adjoining property. The septic tanks were installed anyway. Another reason cited by the county was that the mobile home park did not provide sufficient buffer zone between it and a mink ranch which already existed next door. IRONICALLY, THE INNOCENT residents of the mobile home park built by the developer against county wishes and without a permit, recently petitioned the county to "abate the nuisance" of the mink ranch, complaining of accumulations of manure, urine, putrid food and decaying animals..." PERHAPS IT WAS simple poetic justice when the Bear River District Health Department made an inspection of the mink ranch at the request of commissioners and reported that no health violations could be found. On the contrary, the inspector reported that the mink ranch owner's well "has become contaminated from the installation of the septic tank drain fields which have been installed for the adjoining trailer park, which necessitated the drilling of a new well. ...and the installation of 400 ft. of new water line. This has placed an undue burden on the owner of the mink operation with regards to time schedules for r r 1 fV Power Hike Questioned f o by H . very American. Congress is awafe of this need.
