THE Bdcr Petersen G Top IPriorfoy Ssnftertion, Trash The problem of lack of Ml sanitation facilities and trash pick-u- p at private reservoirs in Utah was placed at the top of the priority list for overall projects recently at the annual planning meeting of the Bear River Resource Conservation and Development Project in n. Since these reservoirs are used by the general public for recreation and are stocked with fish by the state, board members felt that an appropriation to the Division of Parks and Recreation to provide the needed clean-u- p would be the best solution to the problem. They agreed to contact the legislature to support such an appropria' tion. This fund,' if approved, would eliminate the problem that led to the closing of Lynn and Etna Reservoirs in western Box Elder County and is causing a serious pollution problem at Porcupine Reservoir. The board also voted unanimously to contact Governor-elect Matheson to register their opposition to the proposal to pump water, from the Great Salt Lake out on the western desert. The consensus of the group was that water is too valuable a resource to be wasted in this way, especially when so much of the state's livelihood depends on irrigated crops. Grant Lamborn, president of the RC&D board, said the following items were added to the present goals to form the group's objectives for the coming year: (1) control of rodents, predators, and insects; (2) improvement of range and wildlife habitat; (3) flood control: and (4) special emphasis on planning for proper land use. A revision in the constitution necessitated by the proposed inclusion of two new Idaho counties was tentatively approved. The revision will increase the number of sponsors from 28 to 35 and increase membership of the executive board to 24. This change will allow three representatives from Bear Lake County and three from Caribou County.
