Show Page Four In June of 1971, Ken Knapp, then administrator of the David 0. McKay Hospital in Ogden asked if I would accompany him to Tremonton to talk with interested citizens about health care delivery in the Bear River Valley. As we sat and discussed with these interested men the problems that they faced, one could not help but be impressed with optimistic enthusiasm that prevailed in that meeting. Definite statements such as, "We must continue to provide care for the people in this Valley and we are committed to building a new facility." It has been interesting to watch over the years as that same optimism and enthusiasm has generated itself throughout the whole community. Because of that quality, it has been gratifying to work with the community in both maintaining health care facilities in the community as well as constructing the new facility of which we are all so proud. An open letter to the residents It has not been an easy assignment using the old facility, but it has been a worthwhile objective in helping us maintain ourselves until the new facility could be completed. The new hospital has been constructedandequipped to meet the needs of the people in this community. You'll find that the equipment is the latest and the best. The floor plan is convenient and will enable us to operate an efficient hospital as well as a quality hospital. - Speaking of quality, as you obviously know, brick and mortar and equipment do not d staff. We are pleased with provide medical care. The care is provided by a those who have been associated with us in the past in our endeavor to maintain the old hospital; many who have worked under adverse conditions, but still gave their all in meeting the needs of the people in the community. That same effort will manifest itself in the new facility. of the Bear well-traine- The completion of this hospital brings to the community a payroll of approximately $50,000 and an operating budget of $117,000 which goes back into the community to help strengthen the community's economic base. It will provide employment for River Valley approximately people. How remiss I would be if I did not state my sincere appreciation to men such as Mel on the building and construction of the new Foxley and those we have worked facility, to men such as Deloris Stokes, Jay Dee Harris, President James White, Dr. George Ficklin, Mr. Frank Nishiguchi, Bp. John Holmgren and President Gerald Simmons who served on the board of the Bear River Valley Hospital. To these men and so many others who have made our association with this hospital one of the most rewarding and enjoyable . endeavors in our professional career, we sincerely express our appreciation for this opportunity. To the people of Bear River Valley who have been so supportive in all of our endeavors in the health care field, we express our appreciation. Many have asked concerning the possibility of obtaining new physicians to help Dr. Ficklin, Dr. Johnson and Dr. Kerr with their demanding busy schedules. We have been very active in our campaign to recruit physicians into the area. In the past, we have been limited by our physical facilities, obviously this problem has now been corrected. In the past two months we have had several physicians visit the community and are as impressed as I am sure you will be with what they have seen. We are very optimistic about our ability to attract new physicians to Bear River Valley.
