Christensen noted that the schedule has been reshuffled about four times in the last 13 years. Board member Ralph Carter brought the discussion to a close noting that the board's action to ratify dealt strictly with the negotiation package for this year. Under the new contract teachers who have summer dutias will receive 23 their base salary. Specified amounts, as recommended by a study committee, have been set up for "extended day" personnel such as coaches and marching group advisors. A head coach would get an additional $600 a year-- up from $550 last year. Beginning next year, extended day pay for a head coach will be based on seven percent of base salary. Other extended day teachers would get lesser percentages. Member Benson questioned why equal amounts of extended day pay are granted stage supervisors at the two high schools for "widely varying workloads..." In other elements of the negotiation package, it was agreed: -- to allow ten month employes and eleven month employes to accumulate 200 and 220 days sick leave respectively. Sick leave days had previously only been specified for nine and twelve month employees. -- allocated $2,500 to send district educators to conventions and workshops. ' They also approved per diem rates of $40 per day for overnight trips and $12 per day for single day trips. The per diem is paid from the $2,500 and the Association determines which teachers are eligible. -- modified the master negotiation agreement to note thai "if negotiations reach an impasse, the issue in dispute will be handled in a manner agreeable to both parties." "We are getting contact with alcoholics better than we ever have in our lives," he said, but it is mainly adults. Dummer, who said it took him from high school to age fifty to become an alcoholic, said officers in his hometown of Brigham "thought they were doing me a favor" when they hauled him home to his wife after a drunk instead of to jail. He said alcoholics drink for two basic reasons. One, it alleviates "fear" and gives them false courage. Or, two, they lose control. "I either passed out or I ran out," he admitted. He said it took fellow drunks at an AAmeetingsto turn him around. "I had to Jr., Carol Johnson, D.
