Historical Background" SUNSET llIlliiiiBW When the mail stage went through the Bear River Valley to Montana in 1868 and no doubt earlier, there was a mail station on the present site of East Garland, but at that time it was not known as East Garland. In 1884, John A. Larsen moved from Bear River City and built his home on the site of the old station house. This area was named Sunset when in 1889 a branch of the Bear River City LDS ward was organized there. In 1891 and 1892 when the Bear River Canal came through , people began to settle in Sunset In 1893 a school house was erected which became known as "The Little Green School House". What is now known as East Garland, Garland, and North Garland were once known as Sunset.
