Moher Of The Year Week's Good Cook Is With Mother's Day just around the corner, Mrs. Ed (Dorothy) Kerr of East Tremonton seems like an appropriate choice for good cook honors. Mrs. Kerr was recently honored as "Mother of the Year" by the Tremonton Civic League. As a mother she certainly qualifies. She and her husband, State Representahave five sons and daughtive Kerr-Re- p. ters: Katherine Lish of Garland; Caroline Larsen of Tremonton; Sharon Campbell of Providence; Lynn Kerr of Twin Falls,- - Idaho; and Don Kerr, currently stationed in Germany with the US Army. If longevity is any measure of quality, Mrs. Kerr shouldbe an expert. She's been married and cooking, she notes, for 60 years. have nine couple seven children, living; Maurine, Tremonton; Wanda, Salt Lake City; Carol deceased; Renee, Bothwell; Clair, Citrus Heights, Calif.; Lloyd Willard, June, Tremonton; Alma, deceased; and Hal, Plymouth. They have 37 grandchildren and 23 greatgrandchildren. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the Belmont chapel. The loween time. She still does all her own canning and helps daughters and grandkids keep up the art. ' If wisdom come s with experience, Mrs. Kerr isn't offering any bits of wisdom to those young girls just starting out in married life. "They wouldn't listen if you gave it to them," she laughs. But there's wisdom in trying out the recipes provided by Mrs. Kerr for today's column. Just ask son Don. The peppermint pie is his "favorite." HAWAIAN FRUIT SALAD pkg. lemon jello - a can crushed pineapple (303) - Set jello with 1 cup hot water. Pour in pineapple, juice of 12 lemon, 1 can Mandarin oranges drained. .Set until jello is thick. "You didn't buy anything in packages" back then. "You made everything from the ground ,V up." Sherecalls wtchjng her mother bak- ing as many as six loaves of bread at a time in one pan. The bread used to raise while sitting atop a coal stove where it was later cooked. After their marriage the Kerr's moved to Salt Lake momentarily but soon moved back to Tremonton. Granchildren occupy much of their time now when Mr. Kerr isn't off at the State Legislature. The couple have 21 grandchildren and one brand new great grandchild. There's seldom a Sunday goes by that one of the children "doesn't come home to visit," she adds. Mrs. Kerr does a lot of handiwork. Her favorite is cutwork. She also likes to knit Her cutwork is so outstanding that she spends a lot of time doing special requests for others. Her price is reasonable. ..so reasonable, in fact, that a local merchant told her she was a "damn fool." She still does quite a bit of cooking--"mo- re than I should," she admits. "Ed likes everything to eat" In years gone by, she specialized in donuts which she would pass out at Hal Drain one can of string beans. Add one can of Cream of Mushroom soup. Heat in oven until bubbly. Add one can of french fried onions and heat through. 1 12 cup chocolate wafer crumbs - 14 cup sugar - 14 cup butter or margarine. Mix butter and sugar and add crumbs. Press firmly into pie tin. Dissolve 1 small env. gelatin in 14 cup cold water and let set Scald 1 cup milk, add 3 egg yolks, 12 cup sugar, 14 salt, 1 t. vanilla: Cook 1 or two min. Add Gelatin.
