One of the most unique fishing opportunities in the state of Idaho will soon be available to the anglers. This is Cisco fishing at Bear Lake on the border between Idaho and Utah. . .- f s Cisco fishing is unique for two reasons. First of all, the Bonneville Cisco is found nowhere except Bear Lake. The Bonneville Cisco is related to the white fish and averages seven or eight inches in length. The Cisco 4 JUST PASS CUT OVER THE HOLE YOUR NET AND AND THEN YOU WAIT HAVE FOR A THE FISH HAUL ANNUAL CISCO RUN DUE TO START ANYTIME TO T ' spawn along the shoreline during January and February. Fishing is about at its best when the thousands of Cisco cruise the shoreline when searching for a place to deposit their eggs. The second thing that makes Cisco fishing so unique is that the fish are taken with a dip net rather than with a hook and line. The thing involved is wading out into the water, if the lake is not ice covered, waiting for the fish to pass over the net and then scooping them up. Or if the lake is ice covered, the angler cuts a large hole in the ices, places the net in the water and when the fish swim by, dips them up in the net. The dip net may have an opening not 18 inches in dimension. The limits are very greater than e. The bag or posession limit on Cisco is 50 fish per day for all license or permit holders. The Cisco season which opened Jan. 1 will extend through Feb. 15. Cisco fishing, although it takes place during the coldest part of the year in a very cold area, does provide a lot of excitement and enjoyment for the angler. It is particularly delightful for children and an added bonus is that though the fish are small, they are excellent eating. |
