At such a time, the College of Engineering at Utah State University believes too many students have been turned away from engineering by the prospect of fundamental courses that seemed to have little relationship to engineering or because they felt they weren't adequately prepared to take such prerequisite courses as mathematics, English, physics and chemistry, and didn't have the motivation to make up the deficiencies and get with the engineering on - ' 1 courses. Brett Elmer, right, Tremonton, and classmate information on a computer screen during work in Utah State University. The college has attached the problem by offering an introductory engineering course designed to give students a good look at what engineering is all about and some early hands-o- n experience in engineering problems. The result has been good. Enrollment in the class and in engineering has increased steadily, according to Dr. P. T. Blotter, course coordinator. Dr. E.. Joe Middlebrooks, dean of the college, has emphasized the freshman program because of the great need for attracting both men and women into engineering to meet the needs of a growing engineering job market. In the innovative program classes are small to permit individual attention. They are taught by some of the most competent professors who also serve as student research an introductory engineering course at Paul Pulver, F'ielding, study Mrs. Severson Returns Home fiivnoH hnmo Thnrcrlavouon- - ing, after spending the holidays in San Diego, Calif, with her children.
