Corn silage is a safe, inexpensive feed. It provides a good succulent winter forage. Many growers report they can produce more feed per acre with com silage than with any other crop. The new early maturing hybrids make is possible to grow corn silage everywhere in Utah, except in a few of our highest mountain valleys according to Louis A. Jensen", Extension Agronomist at Utah State University, Logan. Growers should give special attention to these things: 1. Choose the best variety. There are good varieties for short, medium, and long season areas. 2. Plant early to take advantage of all the warm weather, using 10 to 14 pounds of seed per acre. 3. Provide high fertility by applying plenty of barnyard manure, of nitrogen fertilizer, or both. 4. Keep the soil moist all during the growing season by light frequent irrigations. with 5.
