Phone HELPER Helper, Utah, Friday, December 22, 1933 With the approach of severe winter weather, Newell B. Cook, state game and fish commissioner, has sent a request to the several game protective organizations in the state seeking their assistance in feeding bird life until spring. A copy of the letter follows: You will pardon my calling your attention once again to the fact that winter is at hand and that bird life is in danger! During hard winters when there is an abundance of snow and numerous sleet storms, many valuable game birds and animals die of starvation and exposure, or become easy prey to predators because of their undernourished condition. Even in our counties where winters are comparatively mild, during the snow months this is also the case, especially following a summer of drought when weed tops, remaining grain and all vegetation has been consumed by domestic stock. When the sleet freezes a coat over the ground it makes it impossible for the birds and animals to get through the crust to what remaining food might be left. Winter feeding is, in our opinion, the secret of successfully increasing the supply of game birds in your locality by natural means. Every bird that dies of exposure and starvation during the winter means a decrease in your breeding stock for next year. Now is the time for all conservation organi zati'ons to put on a well worthwhile feeding program in every locality to increase our bird life. The fish and game department is ready and willing to cooperate with you in your endeavors to the extent of our ability. In :ases where it is impossible for organizations to do this work, if they will kindly notify the game department of the particular locality which is in need, we will gladly give the same our immediate attention. We appreciate the help of the game protective organizations of our state during the past and solicit your help in the future in the feeding of our game birds and animals. We also request your assistance In the destruction of unchanged since in 1908. The Goodyear tread, according to John Laboroi, local Goodyear dealer, who has been looking up the history of tire development, this year celebrated its 25th anni- versary. d tire First attempt at a tread design was the Bailey tread, developed about 1905, and featuring rounded Buttons to an uneven surface that would, resist skidding. It is of interest, too, Mr. Laboroi pointed out that tires were orginally these placed only on rear wheels of non-ski- I ed & non-ski- d automobiles.
