Show Five athletes from participated AFB Hill the in (BIT by Lisa Ryan Hilltop Times staff The Utah Summer Games in Cedar City last month attracted people from all over the state, including athletes from Hill AFB who came home with bronze, silver and gold medals. Rocky Snow, a senior systems analyst with the Contracting Directorate, won eight swimming gold medals r and one silver medal in the freestyle; breast stroke; breast stroke; freestyle; breast freestyle; freestyle; indistroke; backstroke; and the vidual medley (swimmers have to swim four strokes: the freestyle, breast stroke, backstroke and the butterfly) . Snow didn't think he would win so many medals his first time at the games. "The only event I thought I could do very well in is the breast stroke," Snow said. "We just went to have Wing Supply division fun," David said. "We com-- peted on our way back from Arizona." Both David and Sherry are active in bowling leagues in the local area. This is MacGoldrick's third consecutive gold medal in gymnastics. She attends Clay's Tumbling School in Layton. Snow said his strategy before going to Cedar City 75th Air Base was to enter at least two events. That thinking was based on the times submitted by other swimmers and how the heats were assigned by ability. "I used this strategy to decide whether or not I should withdraw from some of the races," Snow said, "to focus on my personal goals to swim my fastest time." Another Hill competitor is Sharon Austin, 75th Air Base Wing Supply Division. This entered the 1500-metrelay event and won the gold medal for her age bracket at the Coliseum of Southern Utah. Austin said she didn't compete to win. "I was just doing it for the fun of it because my son thought that I should participate," Austin said. "Everyone was excited when I got back and showed them - competition, Sherry was just doing it for the fun of it because my son thought that I should participate. "I started running at the Bonneville High School track to just try and get my speed up," Austin said. Austin said exercise is an important part of her life since she was diagnosed with diabetes three years ago. "By running or walking, I can take care of my feet," Austin said. "And that's one of the first things you lose with diabetes. I'm still insulin-fre"For anybody who has diabetes or other health problems, if they can run or jump, I really encourage them. I know it's helped me." Austin said she plans to do the Strut Walk at next year's games. David and Sherry Squires competed in the bowling events.
