Show Nov. 30, 1995 A Hilltop Times 11 ( 1 1 Jkwatids announced It's time once again for angels to make an appearance at Hill AFB as four base volunteers were honored at a special Angel Award Program ceremony Nov. 21 in the Bldg. 1102 Air Room. Jackie McDonough, Lisa Wasserzieher, Gerald Downing and MSgt. Mary Waddell were given Angel Pins at the ceremony in recognition of their efforts throughout the year. The pins are newly designed and are a visual symbol of their dedication. The Angel Award program was founded in 1988 by Eunice Welch, wife of Gen. Larry D. Welch, who was Air Force chief of staff at the time, to recognize the accomplishments and unselfishness of people who have offered their time and talents without expecting a reward or thank you. Volunteers from the base are nominated in two categories. Category I is for volunteers who are not paid employees of the base, while Category II is for volunteers who are paid employees of the base. Here are the winners in the two categories: Category I Jackie McDonough has volunteered more than 7,000 hours at the Hill Aerospace Museum, performing many hours six days per week. For the past four years, she has managed 80 volunteers as the director of volunteers. For anything that affects museum volunteers she is involved. Museum officials say that if any of the scheduled volunteers can't make their shift, she pulls up her sleeves and starts working. McDonough's staff of volunteers nominated her for the award. Museum officials added that she looks after each volunteer just like they were her own family. If any one of them gets sick or has surgery or even has an ingrown toenail, she is always there, they added. Some of the things she does for them includes taking them flowers and cards, and she even has a "sick call" list to track their progress. In addition, McDonough participates in every museum However, the one thing she puts the most importance on is recognizing her staff of volunteers. In fact, it has reportedly been said by many of her volunteers, "She thinks we are all her angels, but she is ours." fund-raise- mm: Since September 1994. she Lisa Wassorziohor has put in more than 2,700 hours of volunteer time at Family Services and the Family Support Center.
