Sherfy was born in Massillon, Ohio, and attended school in Redding, Pa. She met her future husband, John Sherfy, a Navy pilot, while attending the local university. They married in 1948 and she spent the next 30 years as a military spouse, moving 22 times. She kept herself busy raising their two daughters, Lynn and Chris, as well as volunteering many hours with commu- Ogden. One of her primary duties was coordinating the Red Cross blood drives. She supervised the recruiting, scheduling and drawing of blood from 1973 until the Red Cross Intermoun-tai- n Regional Blood Center was closed in 1986. Twice each month, Sherfy could be seen at Hill encouraging participation and ensuring a quality program was conducted. She also coordinated the blood drives at Defense Depot Ogden and at a wide variety of community businesses.
