Carol, the daughter of Alice Viau from the 649th Civil Engineering Squadron, said she has reached every goal she has set so far in her life. Look- "As parents we have mixed emotions about her competing, because it's such a dangerous sport," Alice Viau said. "But it is what she wants to do, so we are behind her all the way." Carol, who has been clocked at', speeds exceeding 96 mph, has been skiing most of her life in one form or another, according to her mother . However, she has only been participating for two years in speed skiing. She said it had been something she had wanted to do for years, but the d skier had always listened to people tell her she was too small and that she did not weigh enough. ing at what she has completed thus far, there can't be much doubt of that. She has participated in rock climbing, bungee jumping from a hot air balloon, hang gliding and much more. Whether Carol places in Europe is not as important as having made it to the World Cup and saying, "Yes, I did it," said a friend of hers. Her mother said that it is hard to see her daughter competing in speed 125-poun- Then she read about Melissa skier a who was the 1984 world champion and the first woman to surpass the barrier. It didn't take long after that for Carol to hit the slopes with skis and the speed skithe big 240-cing circuit. Diniino-Simmon- 127-poun- s, 200-kp- h m skiing.
